Things to try............ Things to avoid

SOUND:

A]  My kids are miked with wireless lavalieres but their voices disappear when they turn their heads.   Any suggestions?
Put lavaliere as close to the center of the chest as possible - this evens out the level as they turn their head from one side to the other
Place the microphone against the throat - changes the tonal quality of the voice a bit but the sound is less dependent on what issues from the mouth
Fit the microphone into the peak of a hat or wig - centered above the nose - can pin it into thick hair - the microphone is now always the same distance from the mouth regardless of head turns or looking up or down
Change to a head-worn microphone - a small lightweight over the ear model looks best - and the microphone is always the same distance from the mouth regardless of head turns or looking up or down
B]   When two miked characters get close together the sound system goes into feedback.   How do we avoid this?
It is necessary to turn one or both microphones down a little so this doesn't happen. It is not possible to use wireless microphones in any quantity (more than two) without someone to control the levels of each microphone. However just like any cast member he/she has to learn cues for when to turn a microphone up or down or on or off.
Never use a sound person who cannot attend at least a couple of Technical Rehearsals before showtime unless it is absolutely avoidable. A kid who can attend rehearsals and create a cue sheet will probably do better.
